MAGNETOELASTICITY IN ITINERANT ELECTRON METAMAGNETISM

摘要
The effect of magnetoelasticity on the itinerant electron metamagnetism is discussed by using the Landau-Belov expansion for magnetic and elastic free energies. It is shown that the critical magnetic field for the metamagnetic transition (MT) between the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic states depends on the magnetovolume coupling. A condition for the MT caused by the magnetovolume coupling is derived. A recently observed result on the volume magnetostriction for Y(Co, Al)2 is discussed. © 1989.
