THE SCHAFER-HUBERT MAGNETOOPTICAL EFFECT AND CLASSICAL GYROTROPY IN LIGHT-WAVE EQUATIONS

摘要
Solving light-wave equations with the classical gyrotropic dielectric tensor for magnetized isotropic materials, we show that the new type of magneto-optical effect caused by magnetization gradients, recently reported by Schafer and Hubert, is compatible in symmetry and magnitude with the predictions of the classical theory.
