SYNTHESIS AND SPECTROSCOPIC CHARACTERISTICS OF BIS-[DIMETHYL(PHENYL)SILYLMETHYL]PLATINUM(II) COMPLEXES WITH PHOSPHORUS DONOR LIGANDS

A series of bis-[dimethyl(phenyl)silylmethyl]platinum(II) complexes cis-Pt(CH2 SiMe2Ph)2L2 and Pt(CH2SiMe2Ph)2(BiL) with mono- and bidentate tertiary phosphine ligands {L = PMe3, PEt3, PMe2Ph, PMePh2, PPh3, P(4-C6H4CH3)3, P(2-C6H4CH3)3, PPh2(2-C6H4CH3), PPh2(2-C6H4CF3); BiL = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane [dppm], 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane [dppe], 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane [dppp], 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane [dppb], 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene [dppf]} has been synthesized by metathetical displacement of the dialkene from Pt(CH2SiMe2Ph)2(cod) or Pt(CH2SiMe2Ph)2(nbd) {cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene; nbd = bicyclo[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-diene}. These new complexes have been characterized by IR and NMR [H-1, C-13 and P-31] spectroscopy and their notable features are discussed. The sila-neophyl [sila-neophyl = dimethyl(phenyl)silylmethyl] ligand exhibits a weaker NMR trans-influence than its carbon analogue.
