THE FOSSIL EVIDENCE FOR MODERN HUMAN ORIGINS IN AFRICA - A REVISED VIEW

It is the purpose of this paper to assess opposing hypotheses for modern human origins, primarily from the point of view of fossil evidence. Four main competing models have emerged as explanations for modern human origins: the African replacement model; the (African) hybridization and replacement model; the assimilation model; and the multiregional evolution model. The individual sections of the paper look at the modern human origins in Africa; human origins and regional continuity; the issues; the Levant and the earliest appearance of modern humans; and the models of modern human origin. -from Author
