摘要
The electrons in the Cu - O planes of the cuprates are strongly correlated. Experimental evidence for the importance of correlations is discussed. The electronic excitations can be studied within the Emery model. Projection techniques are hereby very useful. The spin-bag concept is explained and its experimental consequences are pointed out. The magnetic response is also strongly influenced by electron correlations. Recently observed heavy-fermion behaviour of Nd(2-x)Ce(x)GuO(4) is based on the strong correlations of the conduction electrons and not on the Kondo effect as in standard heavy-fermion systems.
