Single crystals of ZnSe were grown by the Bridgman method in a sealed hot-walled system by the use of a double crucible which comprised an inner pyrolytic BN crucible and an outer Mo crucible, the lid of which was sealed by an electron beam welder. Sealing by this method prevented the melt from evaporation and contamination during the growth. ZnSe single crystals of 10 mm and 20 mm in diameter were grown. The growth procedure and characterization of the resultant crystals by microscopic observations, impurity measurement and PL measurement are presented.
