摘要
Some of the existing definitions of the term 'gel' are discussed and short-comings are identified. A purely phenomenological definition is proposed: a gel is a soft, solid or solid-like material consisting of two or more components one of which is a liquid, present in substantial quantity. 'Solid-like gels' are further defined in terms of the dynamic mechanical properties.
