Compositional dependence of optical properties of Nd3+ ions are investigated in the following lithium borate (LBO) glasses: Li2CO3 + H3BO3 and MCO(3) + Li2CO3 + H3BO3 (M = Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba). The assigned energy-level data of Nd3+ (4f(3)) in these borate glasses, as well as the data that are available for different systems in the literature, are analysed in terms of a parametrized Hamiltonian model that includes 20 free-ion parameters. Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters are determined and used to predict various radiative parameters for fluorescent levels of Nd3+ ions. The dependence of spectroscopic properties on the glass composition are discussed and compared with similar results.
