GROWTH AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ELECTRODEPOSITED CUINSE2 THIN-FILMS FROM SELENO SULFATE-SOLUTION

Ternary CulnSe2 thin films were prepared by electrodeposition from a high pH seleno-sulphate solution. The films were characterized by EDAX, x-ray diffraction and SEM. EDAX analysis shows that the stoichiometry of the films can be controlled by independently varying (i) the deposition current density, and (ii) the electrolytic bath composition. The films deposited at J = 1.1 mA cm-2 with InCl3 (15.12 mM) content in the bath mixture and at J = 0.8 mA cm-2 with InCl3 (18.6 mM) content have a stoichiometric chalcopyrite structure with c/a almost-equal-to 1.97. Electrical measurements show that deposited films are p-type and have a resistivity of about 5 x 10(3) OMEGA cm.
