The transport properties of SrZrO3 based materials are reported. Undoped and Y-doped strontium zirconate show mixed p-type and ionic conduction at temperatures in the range 800-1100-degrees-C, and in air. The effects of oxygen partial pressure are consistent with mixed oxygen ion and protonic conduction, below about 1 Pa. On the contrary, La-doped strontium zirconate shows n-type conduction in reducing conditions, and behaves as an ionic conductor for oxygen partial pressures above 10(-10) Pa at 1000-degrees-C. A defect structure is proposed for undoped and Y-containing strontium zirconate.
