Solid solutions of LnCeO(y) (Ln=Nd, Pr, Sm, Eu) sintered at temperatures up to 1400 degrees C were studied by X-ray diffractometry. The CeO2 fluorite-type structure is retained for all substitutions up to 50 at% of Ln. The width of the solid solutions increases with increasing sintering temperature for all Ln substitutions up to 1400 degrees C. While the lattice parameter a decreases slightly for Pr, which is consistent with the presence of Pr4+, an increase of alpha for Ln=Nd, Sm, and Eu substitutions was observed, in agreement ment with Ln(3+) substitution. Polycrystalline samples of Ln(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-y), which contain a significant amount of these solid solutions, are believed to have an appreciable cation nonstoichiometry.
