摘要
This work proposes the use of the trajectory of the optical admittance Y=iωΕ of metals and metal films on the complex plane as a comprehensive means of displaying their optical properties. The wavelength is changed from FIR to UV. When this convention is used, the contribution to Y from the conduction electrons and that from interband transitions appear as a semicircle and a full circle, respectively. This helps to visualize the interplay of each optical process in metals. Several examples are presented.
