(SR6N)[GA-5] AND (BA6N)[GA-5] - COMPOUNDS WITH DISCRETE (M(6)N) OCTAHEDRA AND [GA-5] CLUSTERS

[Ga5]7− trigonal bipyramids and (M6N)9+ octahedra are present in the crystal structures of the isotypic title compounds. The charge in these phases is balanced by two electrons in metallic states: {(M6N)9+[Ga5]7− · 2e−}. This simple model of the chemical bonding is supported by band structure calculations.
