Computer-assisted molecular modelling (CAMM) is a valuable tool in organic chemistry and should be included in the chemistry curriculum. The minimally equipped MS DOS microcomputers widely available to most undergraduates severely restrict the type of software that can be used for CAMM projects. However, we have written STR3DI.EXE, a molecular graphics program, that can be executed by this hardware, enabling students to perform some exercises in CAMM. Pedagogically valuable CAMM projects must require the students to become familiar with the details of the structures being examined or manipulated.
