The cross-linked, macroreticular, acrylic anion-exchange resin IRA-35 has been readily converted to the iodosobenzoate/hexadecylammonium-functionalized polymer 6a. In pH 8 buffer, 6a catalyzes the cleavage of p-nitropnenyldiphenyl phosphate with kψ= 0.067 s-1, a rate constant comparable to that obtained with iodosobenzoate in CTAC1 micellar solution. Catalyst 6a turns over when saturated with substrate, with kturn = 0.025 s-1 at pH 8. A “family” of functional polymers related to 6a is described. © 1990, American Chemical Society.
