摘要
Cytokines form a network of communication signals between cells of the immune system, and between the immune system and other organs. They interact with structurally complex and often dynamically expressed target cell receptors. The recent demonstration of autoantibodies to cytokines, even in sera of normal individuals, suggests further complexities in the way that nature regulates cytokine functions. Based mainly on evidence obtained by investigating autoantibodies to interleukin 1α (IL-1α), Klaus Bendtzen and colleagues discuss the possibility that naturally occuring antibodies may function as specific physiological carriers and regulators of cytokines. © 1990.
