摘要：

This article examines an important aspect of being a world class manufacturer of the future: the product development cycle. It details the future improvements in the product development cycle with technological advances in computer integrated systems. Using a current leading manufacturer as a reference point, this article provides a guideline for current manufacturing enterprises to make innovative improvements to the product development cycle. It also provides an outline for software producers to design computer integrated systems to meet future needs. These enhancements will result in a higher quality product at a lower cost that reaches the market faster.
