SELF-MONITORING AND PRIVATE SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS - RELATIONS TO HOLLAND VOCATIONAL PERSONALITY-TYPES

Brown, White and Gerstein (1989) reported sex differences in the correlations between a measure of self-monitoring and measures of Holland′s (1985a) vocational personality types. This study represents an effort to extend the results of their study through use of alternate measures of self-monitoring and vocational personality among 139 employed college graduates. In addition, correlations between measures of private self-consciousness and vocational personality were obtained. One facet of self-monitoring (self-presentation) correlated positively with both social and enterprising vocational personality, but only among men. Private self-consciousness correlated positively with measures of artistic (both men and women) and investigative vocational personality (among men only). Implications for career counseling and human resources development are discussed. © 1993 Academic Press, Inc.
