摘要
Close packing of soft spheres standing for atoms and forming nested tetrahedral shells is proposed for the structure of semiconductor (C, Si, and Ge) microclusters which gives a new explanation of the experimental magic numbers and is consistent with the tetrahedral nature of these elements. A new compact structure is proposed for C60 in contrast to the hole-shell structure presently considered. © 1990.
