1. 1. A new method for the treatment of varicose ulcers of the legs is described for use when other methods have failed. 2. 2. No harmful side effects were produced in our patients with the use of the correct intensity. 3. 3. The clinical results with this method were good in the three patients with characteristic cases of chronic ulcers of the legs with venous insufficiency and in whom healing by the known conservative methods was unsuccessful. 4. 4. The scar of one patient (case I) was examined one and a half years after complete healing and it proved to be strong. 5. 5. The biopsy wound healed at the same rate as the wounds made in the surrounding healthy skin, proving the good healing ability of the scar. 6. 6. Further studies should be undertaken to ascertain the mechanism involved in the production of beneficial results in both skin defects and ulcers with the use of direct electric current through the application of the negative electrode. 7. 7. The method described, because of its beneficial action on the connective tissue, can be applied to ulcers of different pathogenesis, after the regular treatment has failed, in an attempt to produce a better and more permanent scar. © 1968.
