NONEQUILIBRIUM STRUCTURES AND GEOMETRY RELAXATION IN POLYOCTYLTHIOPHENE

摘要
From a previous published spectroscopic analysis we know that a solid sample of polyoctyl- (and polyhexyl-) thiophene is a two-phase system characterized by the coexistence of an ordered (O) and of a disordered (D) structure. We show here that by time-temperature studies at low temperature the sample becomes richer in the O structure which is again lost (but not fully) when the sample is brought back to room temperature. The possible origin of such relaxation phenomena is discussed. The information relevant for material science is that the physical properties of this material as now prepared are not yet the limiting ones sought for in technology. © 1990.
