DETERMINATION OF ROW POSITION IN SMALL-GRAIN CROPS BY ANALYSIS OF VIDEO IMAGES

摘要
The paper describes a method for finding the centre position of crop rows in a video image of a sunlit field surface obtained through an infrared filter. The aim is to provide a method for automatic guidance of an interrow-weeder for mechanical weed control. The method is based on summation of the picture elements' grey values. Experiments in cereal crops showed that lateral wind and lateral illumination cause an offset in the calculated row positions, whereas shadows did not appear to disturb the position determination. The standard deviation of the calculated row position was about 10 mm. For a sugar-beet crop the method was found not to be applicable.
