INCORPORATION OF OH IN PCVD OPTICAL FIBERS AND ITS REDUCTION BY FLUORINE DOPING

摘要
Using the PCVD method (plasma activated chemical vapor deposition), the incorporation of OH into optical fibers made of SiO//2 plus GeO//2 has been studied. Impurities added to the gas phase (plasma) were CH//4, i-C//4H//1//0 and H//2O. The influence of F-doping by use of C//2F//6 on the OH incorporation has also been investigated. A quantitative analysis shows that the reaction between F and OH, leading to the reduction of OH, takes place in the deposited glass matrix and not in the plasma.
