摘要
Process planning plays a key role in the integration of the design and manufacturing functions, because it is the function responsible for coverting design specifications into manufacturing instructions. In this paper, we describe the development of a robust interface between a process planning system and a CAD system using the new and emerging Product Data Exchange Specification (PDES) standard for product data definition. The relevant feature data constituting the part definition are extracted from the design database and used as input to the process planning system. Based on this input, a detailed process plan is generated by the system and this can be used to physically manufacture the part. This demonstrates a good basis for true integration between CAD and CAM. © 1990.
