ON THE SORPTION OF GASES AND LIQUIDS IN GLASSY-POLYMERS

摘要
We present a thermodynamic theory of solubility of gases, vapors, and low-molecular-weight liquids in glassy polymers. We show that the distinctive features of sorption in glassy systems may be simply related to their elastic properties. As an illustration we analyze the data of vinyl chloride monomer absorption in poly(vinyl chloride) at various temperatures and vapor pressures and find a quantitative agreement with the model without any adjustable parameters.
