Roots of red, alsike, and white clover, and alfalfa and birdsfoot trefoil from replicated field plots, and from random fields throughout the Maritime Provinces, were examined for root injury by larvae of Sitona spp. (mostly the clover root curculio S. hispidula), and for root rot (mainly Fusarium spp.). The index of larval injury was significantly lower for birdsfoot trefoil than for clovers and alfalfa, and the root rot index for birdsfoot trefoil was lower than for red and alsike clover.
