RADIATION CURING OF AN EPOXY-ACRYLATE-6,7-EPOXY-3,7-DIMETHYLOCTYL ACRYLATE

摘要
Exposure of 6,7-epoxy-3,7-dimethyloctyl acrylate to electron beam radiation leads to polymerization via the acrylate group. When the epoxy acrylate is irradiated in the presence of diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate, both acrylate and epoxide functionalities take part in the polymerization process. In this latter system acrylate polymerization is postulated as occurring via a radical process (induced by slow electrons and phenyl radicals) and epoxide polymerization induced by hydrogen fluoride. UV irradiation of the epoxy acrylate containing diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate under aerobic conditions leads only to polymerization via the epoxide, whereas when oxygen is absent both functional groups participate in the curing process.
