ADDITIONAL STUDY OF THE DIRECT METHANOL-LSC METHOD FOR LOW-LEVEL C-14 MEASUREMENT

摘要
When methanol for C-14 liquid scintillation measurement is prepared directly from carbonized samples through combustion and LiAlH4 reduction, solvent-originating methanol is likely to form in small amounts. We have modified the combustion condition to use an N2-O2 mixture of minimized O2 content, and have made negligible the formation of solvent-originating methanol. Measurements of C-14 concentrations in rice grains, anthracite and NIST standard sample demonstrate the validity of our method as a convenient technique for low-level C-14 measurement.
