摘要
Haematocrit, haemoglobin concentration, and erythrocyte counts were compared in five species of tropical elasmobranchs. Several haematological values were similar and failed to correlate with swimming behaviour. Haematocrit optima predicted from viscosity measurements on reconstituted haematocrits were approximately twice those of measured values. In contrast to teleost fished, the viscosity of both whole bloods and separated plasmas increased sharply at low shear rates. These results are considered in terms of a model for oxygen transport, and it is proposed that blood viscosity, rather than oxygen-carrying capacity, permits a higher potential for oxygen transport in warm ac?ive elasmobranchs.
