A NEW LIQUID XENON SCINTILLATION DETECTOR FOR POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY

摘要
A new position-sensitive detector of annihilation photons filled with liquid xenon is proposed for positron emission tomography. Simultaneous detection of both liquid xenon scintillation and ionization current produces a time resolution of < 1 ns and a position resolution in the tangential direction of the tomograph ring is approximately 1 mm and in the radial direction is approximately 5 mm. The advantages of a tomograph with new detectors are discussed. New algorithms of Compton scattering can be used.
