ELECTRON-SPIN POLARIZATION (CIDEP) AND MAGNETIC-FIELD EFFECTS (MFE) IN SYSTEMS INVOLVING SULFUR-CENTERED RADICALS

Observations are reported of the electron spin resonance spectra of sulfur-centered free radicals produced by laser photolysis of disulfide and some of its symmetric disubstituted para derivatives. All exhibit emissive electron spin polarization, demonstrating radical formation from spin-polarized states of the precursor molecules. Two of the compounds exhibit magnetic field effects in their fluorescence. The results are discussed in light of a previously reported magnetic field effect in a system of similar sulfur-centered radicals.
