STRUCTURAL EFFECTS AND RETENTION IN REVERSED-PHASE ION-PAIR CHROMATOGRAPHY OF 2-BENZOYLBENZOIC ACID-DERIVATIVES

摘要
The retention behavior of 20 derivatives of 2-benzoylbenzoic acid was investigated in reversed-phase (RP) systems consisting of octadecyl silica (LiChrosorb RP-18) as the column packing material eluted with buffer-methanol mixtures containing low concentrations of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (cetrimide). Owing to the linear relationships between logk'' and percent centrimide of percent methanol in the mobile phase, the effects of the individual substituents on retention were quantified by using the group contribution parameter .DELTA. logk''. Correlation between HPLC [high-performance liquid chromatography] and HPTLC [high-performance thin-layer chromatography] data for the same RP systems was analyzed. [Most drugs and related biologically active substances are ionizable and are present mainly in ionized form in aqueous solutions. They can be extracted very easily as ion-pairs with suitable counter-ions.].
