THE RELATIVE REACTIVITY OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY AMINE HYDROGENS DURING THE BULK-POLYMERIZATION OF AROMATIC-AMINES WITH GLYCIDYL ETHERS

Under controlled laboratory conditions, the substitution effect for aniline and DDM does not influence the reaction with PGE and DGEBA. In the absence of solvent, third order kinetics are observed for oligomer, linear polymer, and crosslinked polymer formation, and the onset of glass formation causes a decline in the reaction rate. Extrapolation of the present results to commercial systems is difficult because of the many variables that influence the kinetics in more applied situations. For example, high temperatures (150 degree C plus ) that are usually employed in the final stages of curing, combined with diffusion effects, can change the nature of the reaction considerably.
