THE EFFECT OF PARASITIC SEXTUPOLE FIELDS ON NUCLEAR MICROPROBE RESOLUTION

摘要
Most nuclear microprobes for focusing MeV light ions use magnetic quadrupole lenses as the final demagnifying element, but the effect of the parasitic sextupole fields present on spatial resolution has not been considered in detail. This article discusses firstly the characterisation of a multipole field in terms of its orientation with respect to the quadrupole field, and then assesses the effect of parasitic sextupole fields at varying orientations on nuclear microprobe resolution.
