This correspondence presents an analysis of noise influence to the Wigner distribution. The mean and variance of Wigner distribution of signals contaminated by additive noise are derived. It is shown that in the case of white-noise, Wigner distribution, calculated by definition, cannot be used for estimation. For estimation it is not sufficient windowing in time domain, commonly used in signal processing. The smoothing in time domain is necessary. Very simple expressions for variance and bias estimation are obtained. The analytic signal and noise are considered. In that case, only one window can make variance finite. The results are demonstrated on numerical examples with linear and sinusoidal chirp pulses.
