OPTIMIZATION STUDIES OF A 14.4 GHZ ECR ION-SOURCE FOR THE SUPERCONDUCTIVE LINAC AT LEGNARO

摘要
The relatively intense magnetic field, about 7 kG, necessary for a moderate intensity current source of highly charged ions was reached with carefully optimized solenoids and a hexapole; the Halbach construction was adopted for the latter. The interference between the solenoid and the hexapole is discussed. A compact mechanical structure was obtained. Furthermore, an easy dismount and substitution of the water-cooled plasma chamber, particularly useful with solid materials, is possible.
