LEED-AES OBSERVATIONS OF THE VACUUM-CLEAVED BI-SR-CA-CU-O SINGLE-CRYSTALS

摘要
We carried out the first observations of low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) from surfaces obtained by cleaving the 7- and 80 K-phase Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O single crystals in vacuum. By comparing the results from these surfaces with those from the surfaces obtained by heating the single crystals in vacuum after cleaving in air, we found that the clean surface of 7- or 80 K-phase single crystals was also obtained by heating the single crystals in vacuum after cleaving in air. The adsorption of CO gas on the clean surface of the 80 K-phase single crystal was confirmed by LEED observations, while the adsorption of O2, CO2 and CH4 gases were not confirmed.
