INTERATOMIC DISTANCES IN LAYERED SILICATES AND THEIR INTERCALATION COMPOUNDS AS STUDIED BY CROSS-POLARIZATION NMR

Contact time dependences of signal intensities in Si-29 and C-13 CP/MAS NMR have been measured for kaolinite and kaolinite-dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) and kaolinite-DMSO-d6 intercalation compounds. Cross relaxation times between H-1 and Si-29 and between H-1 and C-13 have been estimated experimentally, which reflect the internuclear distances. Relaxation times have been calculated theoretically using reported crystal structure models, and we have discussed the validity of those models.
