摘要
A theory of collective excitations in periodically microstructured two-dimensional systems with arbitrary modulation amplitude is presented. The nature of the plasmon in these systems is clarified, and it is demonstrated how with increasing modulation the absorption spectrum of the homogeneous system continuously transforms into the spectrum of isolated one-dimensional channels. The results are based on an explicit calculation of the oscillator strengths. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
