INSTANTON INDUCED PERIODIC POTENTIALS IN NONLINEAR SIGMA-MODELS

摘要
It is shown that topologically stable instantons in the theory of a free antisymmetric tensor in four euclidian dimensions induce a cosine potential in the effective lagrangian of the associated scalar mean field. It is then proven that related stable instantons can exist in a certain class of non-linear sigma models and that such theories have a natural, topologically induced cosine potential.
