The advantages and disadvantages of inactivated and modified-live virus vaccines for bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) are addressed. Some current vaccination practices and guidelines for use of vaccines are discussed. Recent advances in knowledge of the virus, coupled with new approaches in vaccine construction, are Likely to soon result in new vaccines.
