High T(c) Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O core/silver sheath superconducting composite tapes with various volume fractions of oxide core (0.05-0.5) were prepared by the powder-in-tube method. The influence of the volume fraction of the oxide core on the strain endurance of the critical current density at 0 T at 77 K was investigated. It was demonstrated that the strain endurance of the critical current can be raised by reducing-the volume fraction of oxide, due to enhanced compressive residual strain in the oxide which is introduced during cooling from the heat treatment temperature to 77 K.
