HALL-EFFECT IN YBCO 247 CERAMICS

We report resistivity and Hall effect measurements on single phase Y2Ba4Cu7O15+delta (YBCO "247") polycrystalline samples with T(c)(onset) = 93K. The temperature dependence of the resistivity is not linear and it fits well a Bloch-Gruneisen curve, consistently with an electron-phonon scattering mechanism. The Hall coefficient R(H) is +(0.6 +/- 0.2) x 10(-10) m3/C between 130K and room temperature and it slightly increases near T(c). Such a small value of R(H) is close to what we measured in the YBCO 124 phase, yet it is much smaller than in the YBCO 123 phase and most of the superconducting oxides. As the 247 and 124 YBCO phases contain well ordered CuO chains, we suggest that the peculiarly small values of R(H) measured in these phases is related to the presence of the CuO chains that may directly contribute to the charge transport.
