摘要
We report the first map of the interfacial structure of the antiferroelectric liquid crystalline phase, directly observed with molecular resolution by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). STM images reveal that the antiferroelectric layers consist of novel quadruple "zigzag" molecular rows with one-dimensional modulated electron density distribution, instead of the simple binary model proposed earlier.
