摘要
The structure of thin terbium/iron layers as a function of layer thickness and deposition temperature is characterised by electron microscopy. Amorphous and non-equilibrium crystalline phases are observed as well as non-random crystal orientations for some preparation conditions, which will affect the magnetic properties of multilayer specimens. The results emphasise the vital role of structural characterisation in the study of multilayers, especially when the components of the multilayer are highly reactive elements.
