ORIGIN OF LARGE NEURONAL SPIKES OBSERVED IN SENSORY NUCLEI OF CATS

摘要
Several investigators have suggested that the large neuronal spikes observed in multiple unit neuronal activity represent the summation of spike potentials from many neurons that fire in unison rather than the spike potential from a single neuron. To test this hypothesis, two electrodes were implanted 1.0 mm apart in the sensory nuclei of 6 cats. Identical and unique spike patterns were recorded simultaneously by the electrodes. The results support the position that the large neuronal spikes were generated by the summation of many neurons firing in synchrony. © 1969.
