Preparation of Homo and Block Glycopolymers/Layered Silicate Nanocomposites by Surface-Initiated Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization

摘要
Different homo-and block glycopolymers/layered silicate nanocomposites were prepared via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization onto Br-ended modified Cloisite 30 B clay surface ( clay-Br) which acted as initiator. The selected glycomonomer was 3-O-methacryloyl-1,2: 5,6-diO-isopropylidene-alpha-D-gluco-furanoside cyclic sugar methacrylate monomer. Other vinyl monomers such as methylmethacrylate and styrene were involved in further copolymerization reactions. Several analyses were performed on such nanocomposites to confirm their formation such as XRD, TGA, DSC and TEM. The hydrolyzed form of homo-glycopolymer/cloisite nanocomposite was involved in metal complexation with Copper as an example of using these materials as heavy metal removers.
