CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE AND MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF TERNARY RARE-EARTH COMPOUNDS OF THE TYPE RMNGA

摘要
The magnetic and crystallographic properties of RMnGa compounds were studied. The compounds with R = Ce, Pr and Nd crystallize in the cubic Laves phase structure (C15). The compounds with R = Gd, Tb, Dy and Ho adopt the hexagonal Fe2P structure. A structure determination was made for HoMnGa. From magnetic measurements it was derived that the magnetic ordering in these materials is fairly complex with a tendency to antiferromagnetism. In the high temperature regime, we observed Curie-Weiss behaviour with effective moments higher than expected for free trivalent R ions. This is taken as an indication of the existence of a moment on the manganese atoms.
