摘要
Beam-induced bumps in plunger targets are explained by thermal expansion. These bumps appear only if a certain threshold of the beam current is exceeded but they can be fatal for lifetime measurements. A simple method is described to find with an electron beam gun the limit of the power, which can be deposited on the target without creating bumps, and formulas are given to calculate the threshold of the beam power.
