THE INTERACTION OF POLY(VINYLPYRROLIDONE) AND SOLID PARTICLES IN ETHANOL

摘要
The interaction of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) and solid particles in ethanol has been studied by measuring adsorbed amount, ζ potential, heat of immersion, dispersion stability, and ESR. In silica and carbon black which are acidic solids, PVP is strongly adsorbed with a larger heat of adsorption and the conformation of PVP adsorbed changes from trains to loops with PVP concentration. On the other hand, in titanium dioxide and alumina which are weak acidic and basic solids, respectively, the heat of adsorption is moderate and PVP is predominantly adsorbed in loops and tails over the whole PVP concentration region. The stability of particle dispersion is remarkably affected by the conformation of PVP adsorbed. © 1993 by Academic Press, Inc.
